St. Mary’s Garden is not currently available through GEMS. We look forward to opening it for events around August 2024 for the new academic year.

We are pleased to announce the opening of our new lawn space on campus. This green space is perfect for events, relaxation, recreation, and study. The St. Mary’s Garden offers multiple spaces lies between St. Mary’s and Darnell Halls on one side and the new Verstandig Pavilion at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. We look forward to hosting a variety of events and setups in this new flexible space.

St. Mary’s Garden includes three spaces:

  • Rachel L. “Bunny” Mellon Park – Bunny Mellon Park is the largest of the three and lies between the front of St. Mary’s Hall and Reservoir Road.
  • Stacy and Ken Samet – The Stacy and Ken Samet lawn offers outdoor seating between the emergency room front doors and Epicurian dining hall. It is not available for event reservations.
  • Allie S. & Francis Freed Family Healing Garden – This garden is a large rectangular area that lies between Darnell Hall and the hospital, and is closest to the Leavey Center. It’s flexible lawn allows for a variety of setups and tenting.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

  • Outdoor Study Sessions: Enjoy studying or reading in the fresh air on our beautiful lawn.
  • Social Gatherings: The ideal spot for picnics, playing catch, and casual hangouts with friends.
  • Campus Events: Our lawn can host a variety of campus events, including receptions, movie nights, movie nights, and more. GEMS can provide variety of furniture rentals, including tents.
  • Personal Relaxation: A calm and comfortable setting to take a break between classes and enjoy takeout from Epicurian dining hall, read a book, and explore a new part of campus.

Policies

  • Sound – Due to the nearby hospital and neighbors, sound levels must be reasonable at all times. In addition, no amplified sound is allowed while class is is session nor between the hours of 10 pm and 9 am.
  • Parking and Unloading – Standing and parked vehicles are not permitted on or next to the garden. Unauthorized vehicles WILL be towed. University visitor parking is available in the Southwest Quad Garage. Parking in the nearby hospital garage is at Medstar’s discretion and requires paying their rates.
